## Blue Comet SPT Layzner ### Bluray Box, Disc 1 #### Info: **Video:** x264 960x720 10bit **Audio:** 2-Channel AAC Japanese 48.0 Khz (~136 kbps) **Raws:** Self-encoded, from SPT Layzner BD-Box **Subtitles:** English softsubs **Subtitle Source:** ACR, /m/Subs **+** Teamed up with /m/subs to redo the entirety of SPT Layzner using the BDs as a base. Scripts have been completely re-translated to fix some of the more egregious errors the first eight episodes (by ACR) were prone to. **+** As usual with pre-digital sources, there's basically no benefit to this footage above 720p. This is as good as it's going to look. >As usual with pre-digital sources, there’s basically no benefit to this footage above 720p. This is as good as it’s going to look. Not exactly true. 35mm sources definitely benefit from 1080p and especially from 4K.
Thanks for the effort of making 720p, but I am not convinced yet, file sizes are too large and it's still 'Meteor' not 'Comet'. 'Suisei' is a comet, 'ryuusei' is a meteor, there is a difference. I think I have talked about this before... Aoki Ryuusei SPT Layzner = Blue Meteor SPT Layzner. I am not too keen about the re-translation either, if you don't even distinguish ryuusei and suisei..

Also, AAC audio in 2020?
> 35mm sources definitely benefit from 1080p and especially from 4K. True enough. But Layzner was shot on 16mm like most pre-digital anime TV series, .
The source must suck so much for 1gb ep to look all smudgy and smeary. But what did you expect, the DVDs look just as bad.
Whew, a real translation for this finally makes an appearance!
Is this release better than the sxales one?

@Nanto So? 16mm can still benefit from 1080p, mostly for because it allows for more film grain. Besides, analog film can be scanned at pretty much any resolution, whereas most early digital anime are made at a set resolution, meaning only upscales can be done, and nothing else.

@sKyWiper In short, yes. Long Answer: this is the first 6 episodes - if you want to watch the series right away, I would at least download this then move on to whatever else encodes are already out there. Starseeker (/m/subs) translated this first years and years ago while still relatively new to the japanese language, especially compared to now. We teamed up to retranslate, restyle, and re-release the series. Especially considering /m/subs never did the first eight episodes, which were by ACR, and were complete garbage and most of it was completely made up, clearly off of a machine translation. The series is archival quality, hence the size, and all steps have been taken to avoid unnecessary filtering, and to maintain grain and detail, while still managing a reasonable size.
Thanks, nice to see this project come to fruition. Just a question: Will "Seal 2000" also be done at some point?
Any plans for Combattler V, Laserion or Aku Dai Sakusen Srungle?
Thank you, I'm hoping for more episodes.
>there’s basically no benefit to this footage above 720p. But that's not quite right coz you're forgetting something. Modern TV's all have fixed resolutions, and if you display an image below the fixed resolution it has to upscale that image to the native resolution. And upscaling creates artifacts. And to get around the problem of artifacts, all processes involve adding a blur filter to the image masking any upscaling artifacts. It might look perfect in screenshots but once it's blown up to fullscreen on your display, it will be blurry. So higher/native resolution is ALWAYS superior, no matter the quality of the source or how old it is etc. (integer scaling fixes this issue, but there are no TV's that use integer scaling including new 4K models, and on the PC side of things you'd have to enable it manually and you'd probably end up with borders on both the x and y axis')
> pre-digital sources, there’s basically no benefit to this footage above 720p. Good joke. I’ll tell it to every anime of digital era, originally drawn in SD resolution or 720 (for modern one).
